ExperienceTutored 2 Spanish and 1 Serbian students at NSU in grammar and writing in 1997-98 and 98-99 to pass TOEFL test. They scored in 90s on test to become eligible to play college tennis. Worked as substitute teacher 14 years in various subjects from elementary to high school levels. Taught full-time 3 years in newspaper/journalism and 9th-10 grade English. I want to help students meet and eventually exceed needs of high school curriculum so they're prepared for a vocation or college. I've attended workshops/seminars on Effective Lesson Delivery, Reading in the Content Areas and Management in the Elementary Classroom. My newspaper/journalism class produced 11 quality newspapers in Fall 2000. I was the editor. All my English students at Cave Springs High School significantly raised EOI test results from previous year. I've worked with wide variety of students in academic and social backgrounds. I have double minor in English/Psychology.
HobbiesI have played tennis since I was 12 and coached junior high through college-aged students. I'm still active as a tournament player. I have officiated little league through high school football the past 5 years, including two state high school playoff games. Also I worked for Tahlequah Boys & Girls Club at Sequoyah Elementary in Spring 2008, assisting kindergartners through 4th graders with homework, activities and supervised them on playground and P.E. I have high expectations for my students as well as myself in challenging them and giving them opportunities to succeed and holding them to a high standard. I'm willing to come early or stay late to accommodate their needs in helping or teaching them.
